[Ottoman Tax Stamp]. Devair-i belediye pul rüsumu [Ottoman fiscal stamp].

[Istanbul?], 1896.

65 x 108 mm. A pair of Ottoman tax stamps on green paper.

 50,00

Fiscal stamps issued by the municipalities during the late Ottoman period. It is thought that such stamps were issued to tax daily market vendors, so they were issued for seven days of the week. Early fiscal stamps had a different colour for each day to specify the day. This late fiscal stamp states that it is issued for Thursday, which is also indicated by its green colour. The value of the stamps is 10 para, written in numbers and text at the bottom. One of the stamps has been cancelled with punched holes.
