To the British painter, draughtsman and printmaker Abraham Cooper (1787-1868) of 13, New Millman Street: "Sir. The delay in replying to yrs has arisen from the nervous [condition] that Papa is in. You can form no idea, the exertion it has been to him to write this - which must be an excuse for the feebleness of his writing. He was 83 yesterday, & has for so many years Entirely laid aside the pencil & pen, that it has been a yrs. work, to obtain the signature to his will. You may judge by this, how valuable these few lines to you are, for I question, whether he will be called on to write again during his life [...]".

Oriana Reinagle was a painter mostly of landscapes; she exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institution. Her father was the painter Philip Reinagle, whose year of birth is uniformly given as 1749, not 1747 (though it was not apparently known that he celebrated his birthday on 10 February). He passed away in 1833.

Traces of former mounting; a few edge flaws remargined.
