The first issue in a series of annual government publications showcasing the latest developments of the newly-founded United Arab Emirates. Commemorates matters of politics and international relations as well as progress in domestic industries, construction and housing projects, agricultural production, education, healthcare and sports.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamed al Hamed (1929-2012) was the UAE's first Minister of Information and Tourism and a member of the First Cabinet of Ministers which was created right after the union. Sheikh Ahmed is remembered as a pioneer of the media industry in the UAE. During Abu Dhabi's oil boom of the 1960s and 1970s he was the mastermind behind the government media, of which the present yearbook was a part.
