First edition of this history of Naples, on which the Neapolitan Jesuit N. P. Giannettasio (1648-1715) had been working since 1701. "The author promised a fourth volume, which was never prepared" (cf. De Backer/S.).
Some browning and brownstaining; old marginalia (occasionally slightly trimmed by later binder's knife); old ownerships obliterated from title pages. Prettily bound set from the library of the Ducs de Luynes at the Château de Dampierre: their bookplate reproducing the arms of Charles Marie d'Albert de Luynes (1783-1839), 7th Duc de Luynes, on pastedown. Rare.
