Covers the history of oil economies in the Arabian Peninsula, particularly Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, along with Azerbaijan, Iraq, and Indonesia. The oil history of the Middle East is the particular focus, including British influence, the Anglo-Iranian Petroleum Company, the 1932 oil dispute, and similar. The author, El-Shenety, was a professor at the University of Cairo, and opens his discussion of European interests in the Middle East by taking the example of the contemporary Suez Crisis, unfolding at the time of writing.
