First English edition (French first ed. published in 1768).

Continuation of Voltaire's well-known chronicle of the age of Louis XIV, providing a history of the rule of his own king (who was not to die until 1774). "Especially valuable due to its wealth of material and attractive presentation" (cf. Meyer, 6th ed.).

Spine restored in 19th c., otherwise a good, only very slightly browned copy from the library of the British philanthropist Robert Fellowes (1771-1847; cf. DNB VI, 1164f.) with his engraved bookplate on the front pastedown of both volumes.
