Born into a prominent family of German painters, Crodel was a co-founder of the Munich Secession and applied himself to landscape painting, his winter landscapes and use of sombre colours earning him the byname "Schnee-und-Regen-Crodel".
Faint traces of postal stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
