An impressionist painter, Skarbina made frequent study tours of Holland, Belgium and France, spent a year in Paris painting themes of city life including street scenes, theatres and saloons, and was a founding member of the artists' association "Vereinigung der XI" in 1892, as well as the Berlin Secession in 1898.
Small creases near lower right corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
