One of the most important Muslim texts on the Prophet Mohammed, first penned by Qadi Iyad bin Musa (1083-1149) in the Maghreb during the Muslim Golden Age. A note on the first leaf of this manuscript explains that it was copied from a manuscript which had itself been copied from the author's original handwritten text. Accordingly, the present copy claims a particularly direct line back to the 12th century original which had such an impact on Muslim theology.

Qadi Iyad was a theologian, a political revolutionary, historian, and poet. He came from a scholarly family and travelled extensively, especially among the intellectual circles in al-Andalus. Of all his work, Al-Shifa is the best known and has generated numerous commentaries from later authors. This copy was completed by the scribe Ahmad bin Sulaiman bin Ahmad bin Muhammad on the 2nd of Shawwal, 1157 H.

Light exterior wear, binding delicate, a few marginal hints of soiling, otherwise in good condition.
