Interesting letter to the music critic and publisher Léon Escudier, concerning the search for a new chief conductor for the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire following the resignation of Théophile Tilmant, specifically a rumor that Thomas had ambitions for the post.

- Théophile Tilmant (1799-1878), a student of Rodolphe Kreutzer, was a close collaborator of Ambroise Thomas, conducting the premieres of Le Caïd in 1849 and, most importantly, of Mignon in 1866. His actual successor as conductor-in-chief of the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, today's Orchestre de Paris, was George Hainl, who was selected on 21 December 1863 and lead the orchestra until his death in 1873.

On stationery with embossed monogram. Somewhat creased. With minor tears to the margins.
