A history of Naples, with an account of the "antiquitas aedificio, civibus, republica, ducibus, religione, bellis, lapidibus, locis adiacentibus, qui totam fere amplectuntur Campaniam" (subtitle). Capaccio is also noted for his guidebooks of Naples and its environs, and while the focus of the present volume is historical, it often contains descriptions of important sites (including early discussions of the then-unexcavated cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as a section on "Vesuvii hoc tempore status").
