Däumig, Ernst (ed.). Der Arbeiter-Rat. Organ d. Arbeiterräte Deutschlands. 1. Jahrgang. Heft 1-43.

Berlin, Arbeiter-Rat, 1919.

Folio (240 x 304 mm). Near-contemporary half cloth with gilt title to spine.

The complete first year of this rare radical weekly that ceased publication in 1920. In the course of the October Revolution, Däumig (1866-1922) became the speaker of the left wing of the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD), which favoured a system of councils (Räte, Soviets) over parliamentary democracy. The same vision informs the present short-lived journal. The first issue begins with the invocation: "Proletarians! The socialist century has begun." - Browned throughout due to paper. Binding a little rubbed and bumped in places, otherwise fine.
