Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Working for the Meißen porcelain manufacture from 1903, Hösel created various figurines of animals, children and native Americans as well as portrait and genre sculptures, making study journeys to Greece, Istanbul, Anatolia and North America.

Small ink spots near left margin. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
