Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Gruss aus München [...]". Inspired by Wilhelm Busch, Oberländer is best known for his popular satirical depictions of human behaviour through anthropomorphic animal motifs which he created for the humoristic magazine "Fliegende Blätter" as well as the 1877 "Lustige Naturgeschichte oder Zoologica comica".

Traces of an angular fold near right margin; a few small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
