Orlik, Emil, Bohemian painter and graphic artist (1870-1932). Autograph signature.

Berlin, [postmark: 11] April 1911.

Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

Specializing in drawings, etchings and xylography, Orlik created portraits of famous contemporaries such as Henrik Ibsen, Gustav Mahler and Rainer Maria Rilke. He was inspired by scenes of peasant as well as urban life and produced numerous "Japonisme" woodcuts inspired by his visit to Japan in 1900 and 1901.

Some angular creases; faint traces of a postmark; small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
