Receiving his first training from his father, the painter Carl Wilhelm Friedrich Oesterley (1805-91), Oesterley junior continued his studies at the Hannover Polytechnicum as well as the Düsseldorf Academy, and specialized in naturalist and impressionist landscape painting inspired by his study trips to Norway, as well as Lübeck architecture.
A few insignificant ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
