To Madame Alexandre about having his melodies engraved with French text for those desirous of singing them, asking her to hand them over to the engraver and deliverer of the letter: "Voulez vous avoir la bonté de remettre au graveur, porteur de ce billet, les mélodies que vous avez à moi. Je vais décidément les faire graver en texte français à l'usage des personnes qui auraient la fantaisie de les chanter: Je crains que ce ne soit pas long à compter - mais enfin! [...]".

On headed stationery of the Écoles communales, where Gounod directed singing education, and of the Orphéon theatre, which Gounod operated from 1852. Small tear in left margin; slightly creased and brownstained; traces of former mounting on reverse.
