First edition of the memoirs of Lichnowsky (1814-48), in which he recounts his military service during the First Carlist War in Spain, on the Carlists' side. Lichnowsky, a member of the Frankfurt parliament, would later be murdered by armed insurgents during the September crisis of 1848.
Occasional light foxing. Provenance: from the library of Archduke Charles Louis of Saxe-Teschen (1771-1847), bound for him with his "CL" monogram on the spine and with his Albertina library labels to pastedowns. Later in the collection of the noted economist Oskar Morgenstern (1902-77), from whose descendants the volume was acquired.
