To the music publisher Henri Heugel with a request for a score of "Hamlet" (the opera by Victorin de Joncières), which he needs for an article in "La Gazette Musicale": "Avez vous une partition d'Hamlet? Je fais mon article pour la Gazette en ce moment, je serais bien aise de l'avoir [...]" (ca. 1867).

A short reply with a beautiful large signature: "J'en sais! mon grand plaisir [...]".

The most comprehensive letter contains four closely written pages, composed during a stay in Brussels with the artist Félicien Rops, mentioning a Hungarian gipsy orchestra that stuck in Gouzien's memory for many years and, and on plans for their engagement: "Voilà sept ans que je les avoir entendus, à cette brasserie Fanta de l'exposition, et la vibration de ces 'csárdás' enragées m'était restée dans l'oreille [...]".

A letter of recommendation for the violinist and composer Franz Godebski, nephew of the composer and conductor Franz Servais: "J'ai entendu de lui des mélodies très délicates. Je voudrais vous en faire entendre quelques-unes. Si vous pouvez lui consacrer quelques instants, vous me ferez plaisir en l'écoutant [...]".

The 12mo letter is a recommendation for a female singer, the teacher of Gouzien's daughter, also sending regards from the pianist Francis Planté, whom he had met in Bordeaux: "une artiste (très modeste mais très distinguée) 1er prix de notre conservatoire et surtout professeur de ma fille!!!! [...]". - All with collection stamps of the "Archives Ménestrel"; the dated letter with printed letterhead of the "Revue des Lettres & des Arts". The 8vo recommendation letter with small marginal defects, the long letter with slight foxing to the fold, the dated letter with light brownstaining to the margins, slightly rubbed and duststained on the verso.
