Warin, D. F. The postal issues of Hejaz, Jeddah and Nejd.

London, D. Field, 1927.

4to. XII, 130 pp. With folding map and chart. Contemporary three-quarter blue leather and blue cloth.

 1,500.00

With illustrations by J. Calcotte Gaskin, including numerous illustrations of stamps and the particular script found in them. Two colour plates show how to read the central panels of 1916-17 issues of Hejaz stamps, colour-coded to help non-native speakers read the individual letters in stylized Arabic, thus enabling one to identify the Piastre, the one-quarter Piastre, the half Piastre, and the one-eighth Piastre. Includes one folding chart and a folding map, the latter in colour and illustrating relevant zones of the Arabian Peninsula and some of the Gulf coast, including Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, British and French Mandates, and Arab Territory. The text itself constitutes a detailed and scholarly breakdown of postage stamps and hand stamps from the region, ideal for a knowledgeable collector.

With light exterior wear and discolouration, deacquisition stamp and related library remnants; folding map and chart backed in linen, with small closed tear to chart. Bright and clean.
