The unique blend of calligraphy from the Arabic and Chinese traditions by one of the best known calligraphers from Ürümqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Muhammad Hasan ibn Yusuf (1925-2006), also known as Shi Jie Cheng. His work has been displayed in Ürümqi, Beijing (1994, 1998), Kuala Lumpur (2000), and Jeddah (2002). Here, a rooster formed by calligraphic script in the Arabic style perches on a branch, bordered in delicate grays and blues and featuring two of the artist's Chinese seal stamps.

The mixture of Chinese and Muslim art and calligraphy has a long and rich history, with the movement of people, religions, and ideas along the Silk Roads from antiquity onwards. A nice example of the Sino-Arabic style.

In excellent condition.
