An autograph sketchleaf from an unfinished operetta, accompanied by a dedication to Mademoiselle Feuillet de Conches (the daughter of the French diplomat, writer and collector Félix-Sébastien Feuillet de Conches?).

Some short working sketches including two with lyrics, 'Vive vive de la Bohème' and 'Excès d'audace et d'insolence', annotated with lively lyrics suggesting a Spanish theme: 'Vive vive de la Bohème / ces Refrains si joyeux / vive les chants si gracieux / Ecoutez jeunes filles / Les tendres Seguidilles / aux amens enchanteurs / Les folles chansonettes / aux sons des castanettes / qui font battre le coeur'. Here we see the composer at work, with several revisions to the score. In brown ink on 24-stave musical paper, bearing the mark of Lard Esnault of Paris, 25 Rue Feydeau.

A delightfully representative piece of the composer's work, redolent of the golden age of Bohemian Paris.

Condition

Some creasing, mainly along the centre which has been folded, and two small marginal tears, light soiling in keeping with age, an attractive example of a composer's work in progress.
