A comprehensive geological paper overviewing the stratigraphy of important Iraqi oil fields at Kirkuk and Bai Hassan. Originally published in the September 1956 issue of the Journal of the Institute of Petroleum by R. C. Van Bellen, a paleontologist with Iraq Petroleum in Kirkuk, with eight pages of black and white plates of microscopic imaging, useful for identification and dating of samples, and numerous diagrams. Folding plates and in-text diagrams show the geological history of ancient reef formations and a cross facies section of limestone formations of several sites, including the Kirkuk anticline and the Qarah Chauq Dagh. The largest folding plate is titled "Correlations, cross-facies sections & extent of reef belts during the Oligocene in the Kirkuk, Bai Hassan & Qarah Chauq Dagh Anticlines".

A very well preserved paper from one of the most important industry journals of the 20th century, reflecting the 1950s scientific background to oil production in 1950s Iraq.
