The photograph taken by the noted teenage jazz fan Bob (Robert Edward) Inman (1920-2010) captures Holiday and Shaw together on stage during their extensive 1938 run at the Roseland Ballroom, Boston. Annotated on the verso by Inman with his "photo credit" to the recto. While Inman insisted to the original purchaser that this was the only print, at least one other example is known. The present specimen was used by the BBC for a documentary, "Billie Holiday: Sensational Lady", broadcast in July 2001 (their programme information mounted on verso). Inman also noted loans to the New York Times for publication in October, 2001, and to A&E Biography, possibly for their American Masters Series. The image also appears in the late Ken Vail's "Lady Day's Diary", with credit to Inman.
Pin holes to the top corners, lower left-hand corner chipped, and some marginal creasing.
