Engr., illustrated t. p. and 30 engr. plates, c. 106 x 75 mm. In original hand colour throughout, raised in gilt. Stored loosely in custom-made red morocco case with gilt spine.


Fine, complete series of costumes as worn by the Roman Curia. The title page depicts the newly-crowned Pius IX (Pope from 1846 to 1878); several other plates also show the Holy Father in splendid garments as well as in his private robes. Other plates show Cardinals, Bishops, priests, chamberlains, lesser member of the clergy, and the Swiss Guard.

Traces of mounting on reverse, otherwise very attractively preserved throughout.
