An comprehensive letter to one Mr Wolf, explaining why he was unable to write the German libretto of Verdi's "I vespri Siciliani" for more than 15 years now, which, in his opinion, is the "weakest libretto that was ever written for him" (transl. from the German original). Although Verdi's publisher Ricordi had even urged him in the year before to write it, he declined to do so, and is now utterly satisfied that his correspondent wanted to write the German libretto: "[...] One obstacle, however, remains morally and legally [...]".

Somewhat browned and small damage to edges.
