First French translation, from the second English edition (first published in English in 1784): an account of a journey made from Yemen to the Red Sea and Egypt and on to Europe. Rooke's narrative commentary on the expedition despatched in 1781 with the object of capturing the Cape provides descriptions of Mecca, Jeddah, and Cairo. Includes extensive notes by the translator.
