Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau.

The first woman to be elected to the Prussian Academy of Arts, Kollwitz specialized in etching and lithography. Her most famous art cycles, including "Ein Weberaufstand" and "Bauernkrieg", depict the effects of poverty, hunger and war on the working class; her sculptures tackle issues like grief and motherhood.

Small ink spots; a few slight creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
