Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page.
Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Den Sammler begrüßt [...]".
Working in Vienna from 1873, von Zumbusch is considered the most important monumental sculptor of Historicism in Austria, his main works including the monuments for Beethoven and Maria Theresa, as well as the statue of Emperor Franz Joseph in the Vienna University, a sense of idealization characterizing his oeuvre as a whole.
Traces of a postmark; some small ink spots and creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
