An das von 1863 bis 1867 erschienene Wochenblatt "The Reader" mit der Mitteilung, dass er nicht auf einer "list of contributors" aufscheinen wolle: "It is now very long that I have ceased to make anything that deserves to be called an Astronomical observation - not having indeed so much as a telescope mounted for work, so thus whatever I may do in this line is in the nature of work at second hand, or at best of a speculative nature [...]".
