Rare first Modern Greek translation of the famous "Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam", translated by the poet and physician Paulos Gneutos (Gneftos, 1862-1956). Contains 103 quatrains. Unknown to Ambrose Potter, whose "Bibliography of the Rubaiyat" (1929) lists only the translation by Georgios Katsimbalis, published in Athens the following year.

Inscribed and signed by the translator on the title-page, though the name of the recipient of the gift has been cut out and rebacked; an ink annotation to quatrains 76/77. Spine chipped; light foxing near beginning and end, but generally well preserved. Very scarce: OCLC records only two copies in research libraries (at Princeton and the Sorbonne in Paris).
