Scientific paper by the leading geologist of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, George Martin Lees (1898-1955). Inscribed copy signed by the author: "With the Compliments of G. M. Lees".

The paper studies the geological structure of oilfields in Iraq and the Gulf, including a stratigraphic analysis, a reflection on oil indicators and source rocks, and a detailed report on various oilfields including Masjid-i-Sulaiman, Haft Kel, Agha Jari, and Lali, the youngest of the Persian oilfields at the time. The photographic illustrations depict the Kuh-i-Namak salt plug, the long Kabir Kuh anticline exposing Middle Cretaceous limestones in the core, Asmari mountain, and the Kuh-i Kharbal syncline.

Offprint from "The Science of Petroleum" vol. I, part I. Library stamp and shelfmark of the Sedgwick Museum Lending Library at the University of Cambridge to front cover. Some rust spots from stapling, otherwise in fine condition.
