A 14th century commentary by Muhammad ibn Mubarakshah al-Bukhari (d. ca. 1340) on Hikmat al-'ayn, a treatise on metaphysics and the natural sciences. Dated to the 16th or 17th century, this manuscript is an early copy of Muhammad al-Bukhari's work.

Often overshadowed by the better known ninth-century al-Bukhari, Ibn Mubarakshah made great contributions of his own, authoring several commentaries and scientific texts in 14th century Persia. This copy, though missing a short final section, is written in particularly beautiful, clear naskh script, and illustrated with diagrams in red. They illustrate rules of geometry, astronomical orbits, astrological calculations, and phases of the moon.

Condition

Lacking colophon and a section at the end of the text. Small stain to upper margin of a few leaves, one diagram trimmed and two others smudged, apparently in an attempt to remove some of their labels.
