A large collection of picture postcards from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, including city, street and port views of Tangier, Tunis, Algiers, Oran, Casablanca, Oudjda, Kairouan, Carthago, and Sousse, along with several historic shots of the Suez Canal, concluding with a portrait of Abbas II, the last Khedive of Egypt (r. 1892-1914). Other postcards depict native types and costumes, tribesmen, bedouins, barbers, and serpent charmers in Marrakesh, ancient ruins such as the amphitheatre in Dougga, souks, mosques and museum interiors. Imposing views of the busy harbour at Port Said round out the collection, showing the ocean liners "Persia" and "Macedonia", the departure of the "Caledonia" and the German steamer "Prinz Eitel Friedrich" at anchor.

Even though most are blank, some postcards are addressed to recipients in Sweden, Caledonia, or France, bearing holiday greetings from trips to the Maghreb. The bulk of the archive dates from around 1910, proving an exceptional record of North African cityscapes before the First World War.
