Inscribed and signed by the author to the German physician and chemist Albrecht Kossel (1853-1927), who would be awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1910. This is the first separate printing of Ehrlich's seminal work on the treatment of trypanosome diseases. Ehrlich's research on chemo-therapeutic methods would lead to him developing his famous "magic bullet": the drug Salvarsan proved effective against syphilis and earned him the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1908.
