A warning against of Barbary corsairs, issued to all coastal towns in the Agrigento province in Sicily. This circular letter reports an incident off Agrigento and Palma di Montechiaro, where an alleged corsair boat was spotted near the coast, eastbound and beyond cannon reach, not responding to lighthouse signals. A passing boat from Trapani started chasing the suspicious vessel, soon giving up the chase, as it appeared too dangerous: "j[iov]edi mattina comparue dalla parte di Ponente un grosso sciabecco, che per allora gli parue uno dei corsari, che custodiscono la costa [...] non avendo corrisposto al segno dato dalla dito torre [...] non avendo potuto far uso del cannone perche lontano, anzi nel passaggio fatto da una barca trapanesa si pose ad inseguirla [...] il trapanese lasciò l'impresa [...] abbiamo pensato propi darne l'aviso [...] per la custodia del propio littorale".
The name of the addressed city has been clipped from the address, otherwise very well preserved.
