A history of international relations of the United Arab Emirates, addressing British interests as well as relations with Iran, Oman and Saudi Arabia, border conflicts, oil interests, and the role of the Emirates during both World Wars. Much rarer than the modern history of the UAE prepared by the same author in 1978.

Includes the rare supplement, which provides genealogies of the ruling families of the UAE: Al Nahyan, Al Maktoum, Al Qasimi, Al Bu Kharaiban, Al Mualla, and Al Sharqi. Further includes maps of the Liwa, al-Ain and al-Buraimi regions, a map of developments in the western border issue, a map of the Trucial States borders in the 1950s, and a general map of the United Arab Emirates.
