A letter to an American autograph collector, written shortly after the death of Yitzhak Rabin: "I assure you that we will continue this peaceful march with the support of all lovers of freedom and peace in the world until a just, comprehensive and lasting peace is achieved in Palestine and the region, guaranteeing a life of security and stability for all our Palestinian people, who will end the occupation of their land and their shrines and restore and exercise their national rights, especially their right to self-determination" (transl. from the Arabic original).

The portrait depicts Arafat on the occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the United Nations, a Special Commemorative Meeting of the General Assembly which was held from 22 to 24 October 1995.
