Short administrative communication to the Weimar Theatre Commission, returning a circular duly signed and declaring full agreement with his “esteemed fellow commissioners”, closing with the laconic wish for “dryness”.

A compact witness to Goethe’s day to day oversight of the court theatre’s business at the end of his long tenure as artistic director, showing procedures of collegial approval within the commission. Written in the months before the body was renamed the Hoftheater Intendanz, and scarcely a year prior to Goethe’s final withdrawal from theatre management; a telling piece within the documentation of his Weimar administration.

Provenance

From the estate of Franz Kirms, according to an earlier collector's note.
