Salieri, Antonio

Antonio Salieri, Italian composer, 1750-1825

Antonio Salieri was an Italian classical composer, who spent his adult life and career as a subject of the Habsburg Monarchy. His dramatic works were widely performed throughout Europe during his lifetime. Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Liszt were among the most famous of his pupils. Nowadays, Salieri remains in collective memory as adversary of Mozart. Salieri, along with Mozart's protégé Johann Nepomuk Hummel, educated Mozart's younger son Franz Xaver Mozart, who was born in the year his father died.
